Union County constructed a 143,728-square-foot human services building with associated parking and infrastructure to house the Division of Social Services, Division of Public Health, and Human Services Administration. The new steel-framed building is three stories high and includes below-grade walls and a slab-on-grade floor system. Challenges included existing fill soils, shallow weathered rock, shallow water, moderately plasticity soils, and low consistency residual soils.
For this project, ESP provided subsurface exploration services and performed soil test borings and laboratory testing on select on-site soils. Our team provided recommendations for foundation support, seismic design, below-grade wall design, and pavement design. ESP also provided materials testing and Special Inspection services for the building, including subgrade evaluations, field density testing, foundation evaluations, concrete testing and inspections, reinforcing steel inspections, and structural steel inspections.
