The Shoppes at Ardrey Kell is an 11-acre retail development that includes an anchor grocery store and six outparcels for restaurant, office, retail, and urgent care. This project required more than 30 feet of structural fill to be imported from off-site and the construction of several modular block retaining walls ranging in height from 5 to 30 feet. ESP provided geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, and special inspection services. Geotechnical challenges included shallow ground water and excessive settlement potential.
Geotechnical services included soil test borings, laboratory testing services, and recommendations and analyses for suitability of fill soils, slope stability, site dewatering, shallow foundations, and anticipated settlements. Special inspection and materials testing services included subgrade evaluations, undercut monitoring, french drain installation monitoring, field density testing, settlement monitoring, foundation evaluations, and retaining wall inspections. ESP also performed field surveys and a Phase I ESA.
