Abbey Creek Greenway

As the flagship capital improvement project for the City of Belmont’s greenway master plan, Abbey Creek Greenway extends the Carolina Thread Trail from Catawba River into Gaston County, connecting downtown, Kevin Loftin Riverfront Park, and the municipal building and recreation complex.

Through partnership with Gaston College, Adam’s Bluff HOA, and The Morris at Belmont developer Kaplan Residential, this unique 10-foot-wide paved path extends 1.2 miles and incorporates a pre-fabricated bridge, boardwalk, and multiple trailheads and pocket parks.

To help balance CIP projects and prepare for additional grants, ESP coordinated with local and state agencies (e.g. NCDOT, GCLMPO, NCDEQ, Catawba Lands Conservancy) to create a multi-year budget and schedule that will align the City of Belmont’s fiscal budget across departments.
