CivilCorp, an ESP Company, provided schematic design and PS&E (preliminary engineering and prepared plans, specifications, and estimates) for a new 6.4-mile freeway that traverses rural Polk County along the west side of the City of Corrigan. Ultimately, it will be a part of the I-69 system, relieving strains on traffic and promoting safety in the community and to the traveling public.
Preliminary engineering included schematic design for the new location bypass freeway, preliminary drainage analysis, large signing and illumination schematics, and public involvement which included participation in public meetings and a public hearing. Our team also coordinated schematic design with development of the project’s environmental assessment, which included evaluating wetlands and floodplains along the project corridor and modifying design to reduce impacts. Final design included preparing PS&E for the 6.4-mile corridor which included 19 bridges located at US 287, Union Springs Road, two Union Pacific Railroad crossings (with Exhibit A approval), Dry Creek, Bear Creek, Bear Creek Tributary, and numerous drainage outfalls. Our team developed horizontal and vertical roadway geometry for the mainlanes, ramps and intersecting roadways; prepared the multi-phased traffic control plan; and developed the design cross sections.
Our team also provided extensive utility coordination, wetland/stream impact mitigation, and environmental permitting. Survey services included verifying and supplementing aerial flight survey data, setting additional control, performing hydraulic cross sections of streams for FEMA analysis and HEC-RAS modeling, providing GIS deliverables, surveying all intersecting properties, and collecting topographic survey data through heavy vegetation and tree farms. This project required creative thinking to meet project deadlines, including the use of a hydro axe/skidsteer to clear areas for line of sight. Other project requirements included property descriptions for over 30 right-of-way parcels and control throughout as well as coordination with affected landowners to acquire entry onto properties for survey.
