As the town’s first dedicated recreation space, the new Town of Mead Community Center will serve as a vibrant hub for residents of all ages. The center’s 11,500-square-foot pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) houses an athletic gym, staff offices, and a multi-purpose room for conferences and events. The two-acre site also includes a new parking lot, sidewalks, and outdoor gathering areas, with future plans for a splash park on the north side of the property.
The site was once home to a historic bean processing facility that was a vital part of the town’s agricultural past. Paying homage to this history, several salvaged items from the bean plant were incorporated into the building’s architectural design, including lighting fixtures made from salvaged timbers, a salvaged timber wall section, and the repurposing of bean processing pots as landscaping planters.
Ditesco, an ESP Company, was involved in the project from initial concept through design, procurement, and construction. Pre-construction services included coordination between the town and architect, review of design elements for constructability and budget conformance, preparation of bid documents, and review of bids. Our team’s construction-phase scope included contract and construction management, quality assurance inspection, and coordination with the design team, town, and project neighbors.
