Guided by its downtown master plan, the Fort Collins Downtown Development Authority (DDA) implemented an alley renovation program to make aesthetic enhancements, stimulate economic vitality, and encourage greater public use of these spaces. Since 2010, Ditesco, an ESP Company, has partnered with the DDA to support the program. To date, ten alleys have been completed, with two more – East Mulberry and Chestnut Street – currently under construction and slated for completion in 2025. An additional two alleys are planned for construction in 2027.
Each alley was developed with a distinct theme and design approach, resulting in transformative improvements that convert congested and deteriorated alleys into inviting corridors for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. Enhancements include full pavement rehabilitation, light poles for improved security, wall-pack lighting and security cameras, strategically placed landscaping, and integrated public art. Once completed, these alleys serve as key connectors to destinations throughout the downtown area.
Our team provides civil engineering, as well as project and construction management services, throughout the design and construction phases for the DDA. This includes participating in the procurement and selection of the architect, managing the design process (including development of grading and erosion control plans), preparing bid documents, soliciting and selecting the contractor, and serving as resident engineer during construction.
For the East Mulberry and Chestnut Street alleys, CivilCorp, an ESP Company, provided structural engineering calculations for the foundations supporting planned public art installations.
