ESP provided construction materials testing and Special Inspections services for Charleston Water System’s new 16-acre campus, which includes two buildings, associated parking and drives, and an egress road. A 32,800-square-foot, two-story building, which houses a Customer Technology Center, is a steel-framed structure supported on shallow foundations and rated to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. An associated 1,900-square-foot, single-story, steel-framed building houses a state-of-the-art Emergency Operations Center.
Chapter 7 Special Inspections and materials testing services included verification of soils, excavating and filling, reinforced concrete, structural steel, structural masonry, seismic resistance, post-installed anchors, stone, and asphalt, as well as NPDES stormwater construction compliance observations for both buildings on the campus, sometimes simultaneously. Laboratory services for this project consisted of soils, concrete, and masonry in accordance with applicable standards and performed in ESP’s AASHTO accredited laboratory in North Charleston, SC.
