Cape Fear River Crossing

Pickett, an ESP company, was contracted to increase the vertical clearance provided by the double circuit 230kV transmission line crossing the Cape Fear River shipping channel. At the request of the North Carolina State Ports Authority, this project enabled larger vessels to call the Port of Wilmington and was mandated by state legislature as a necessity for the region. Our team evaluated potential options to help stakeholders determine the most appropriate solution for safety, constructability, permitting constraints, cost, and schedule.

For this project, Pickett performed structural analysis and design, structural and foundation analysis, new structure design, condition assessments, and construction support. These services required preparation of a PLS-CADD design and construction package, conceptual lattice tower modeling, review of the final lattice tower for Corbett Sugar Quarry, design and shop drawings, design and construction support, preparation of supporting permit drawings, and foundation analysis utilizing Ensoft GROUP and BOMs. Jointly with ESP, services also included aerial lidar and drone imagery collection.
