Asheville Plant 115kV / 230kV Transmission Support

Pickett, an ESP company, was contracted to design three new transmission tie lines and the relocation and rebuild of six existing transmission lines in support of the client’s decommissioning of the existing Asheville coal-fired generation plant and replacement with a new combined cycle power plant. This project included the design of 37 drilled shaft foundations and engineered steel structures.

Our team considered the following challenges in the design: short clearance windows, several projects running in parallel in limited space, and shallow rock. Provided services included PLS-CADD modeling, structural analysis, load tree development, foundation design, structure drawing development, and aerial lidar data collection.
