As a subconsultant to Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, ESP is providing geotechnical engineering and surveying services for the construction of this $100M bridge project for the City of Charleston. As the first of its kind in the U.S., this 4,100-foot-long bridge will have a 225-foot bobtail, cable-stayed swing span to allow passage of marine traffic. Ashley River Crossing will connect the West Ashley Greenway to downtown Charleston, providing a safe connection for bicyclists and pedestrians traveling between West Ashley and downtown. The bridge will also serve as a missing link for the East Coast Greenway that connects Florida to Maine.
Additionally, the project will include intersection improvements on Lockwood Boulevard, the Greenway at Folly Road Boulevard and Wesley Drive, and Wappoo Road. ESP is responsible for geotechnical exploration, laboratory testing, geotechnical design, and surveying to support this design-build project. Our team performed an existing condition survey of the adjacent vehicle bridge to verify conformity between the two bridges. A boundary survey was also performed on both sides of river to verify boundary and right-of-way locations.
