ESP was selected as a subcontractor to provide quality control inspection for this design-build replacement interchange at US 1 and I-20 in Lexington County, which will demolish the existing interchange. The purpose of the project is to address traffic deficiencies at the interchange, to correct structural deficiencies, to bring the facility up to current standards and to accommodate a future lane in each direction along the interstate.
For this project, ESP’s staff geophysicists provided real-time vibration monitoring services by setting up four remote seismograph stations. These stations sent text alerts to ESP personnel when vibrations exceeded SCDOT limits, allowing us to promptly notify the contractor and SCDOT of any valid events that might affect neighboring structures.
ESP’s experienced and certified staff are also performing QC inspection and testing for all phases of construction on the project, including earthwork, base course, storm drainage, asphalt paving, concrete paving, the new US 1 bridge over I-20, the new Cedar Road bridge over US 1, MSE walls, R.C. walls, signing, traffic signals, and pavement markings.
