ESP’s San Antonio office (formerly Vickrey & Associates, LLC) provided engineering and surveying services for the VIA Primo bus rapid transit (BRT) line along approximately 20 miles of the Fredericksburg corridor between Medical Center Transit Center and the planned Westside Multi-Modal Transit Center. As the first high-capacity transit mode in San Antonio, this route is almost 20 miles long and connects two transit centers and 15-inline stations.
For this project, our team provided engineering and surveying services for the conceptual design phase, including preparation of base maps for the existing ROW, identification of major physical obstacles and potential conflicts to the road widening, participation in project concept development meetings, and preparation of design-level cost estimates for road widening. We also identified and mapped major utility constraints and identified drainage impacts along the corridor to prepare for City Capital Improvement Drainage Projects programmed for the area. For the study, we also prepared a cost estimate for the road widening, drainage improvements, and construction of BRT-dedicated running lanes.
The ESP team also coordinated aerial topography and conducted geodetic control, utility, boundary, and design-level topographic surveys. Our team researched over a hundred properties when establishing the apparent right-of-way (ROW) and prepared parcel and easement documents to support real estate acquisitions. We also provided utility coordination and surveying services for this project, including horizontal and vertical control, design-level topographic survey at driveways and at intersections to verify design grades harmonized with existing grades, utility survey for all visible and subsurface utilities, coordination with TxDOT and American Signal for traffic control and lane closures, preparation of weekly progress reports, project management, topographic and boundary surveys with metes-and-bounds descriptions for parcels at 15 in-line station locations, and establishment of flight panel points for use in an aerial topographic survey.
The ESP team also performed a design-level topographic and utility survey for the Medical Center Transit Center and completed a boundary, design-level topographic, and utility survey for the planned Westside Multi Modal Transit Center.
